Presented by Anthony Gibbs and Ron St. Pierre
On January 1, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued an executive order proclaiming the freedom of slaves in the ten states then in rebellion. With the war continuing, the country is beginning to assess the meaning of this historic presidential order. Nowhere does this have more of an impact than in Ripley, Ohio. Here in the early spring of 1863, two neighbors and colleagues in the anti-slavery movement, one black, one white, sit together and discuss just how far they have come and what the future holds. Join Mr. John Parker, portrayed by Anthony Gibbs, and the Reverend John Rankin, portrayed by Ronald St. Pierre, as they reflect on their lives and their work to bring freedom to an oppressed people.
