Are you considering researching and incorporating transportation history into your museum exhibits? Learn about the many resources available from The Texas Department of Transportation and other sources, as well as how to access them and best practices for utilizing them your exhibits. Using examples from exhibits across the state, this webinar will focus on strategies for using these resources to tell local stories that support your community’s history.
Rebekah Dobrasko is an environmental program manager and lead historian at the Texas Department of Transportation. She is currently project managing the public education efforts on Texas’ Post-World-War-II Historic Bridges and is a co-manager of the Beyond The Road campaign. She holds a masters degree in public history from the University of South Carolina and an undergraduate history degree from Tulane University in New Orleans. Prior to joining TxDOT in 2013, Rebekah worked at the South Carolina State Historic Preservation Office in Columbia, South Carolina for ten years. During that time, she served as the supervisor for compliance, tax incentives, and survey and as the state tax credit program coordinator.
Kate Betz, Deputy Director of Interpretation at the Bullock Texas State History Museum, leads the Museum’s education and exhibitions departments, seeking to tell the continually unfolding story of Texas through meaningful educational experiences. Serving more than 300,000 people annually, education programs and exhibitions have at their core the desire to share unique experiences with a diversity of people in an environment that encourages life-long learning and development. In addition to programming, Ms. Betz also ensures coordination of interpretive messaging, manages the museum’s ongoing evaluation efforts and leads the team responsible for the Museum’s social media channels. Prior to coming to the Bullock in 2009, Ms. Betz managed public programming at The Farmers’ Museum and the Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown, New York.
