Program of the Anderson Township Historical Society
Wednesday, November 2, 2016, 7:30 P.M. “Local Boy Makes Good – from Mt. Auburn to the White House”
The Anderson Township Historical Society meets onWednesday, November 2, 2016 at the Anderson Center, 7850 Five Mile Road, Anderson Township, Lower Atrium, next to the History Room, at 7:30 PM.
ATHS Member Lyn Scheper will present a program “Local Boy Makes Good – From Mt. Auburn to the White House.” The boyhood home of Cincinnati native William Howard Taft is the inspiration of this program. Our speaker will cover Taft’s home, now a National Historic Site, his family background and upbringing, as well as his wife, family and life-long career of service to the people of Cincinnati, Ohio and the nation.
In 1858 (at age 1) his father said “[Willie] is a delightful little fellow; seems to make the best of the ills of his life.” In 1874 William (at age 16) wrote his father, “You expect great things of me, but you mustn’t be disappointed if I don’t come up to your expectations.” It is very doubtful that the man who became our 27th President and 10th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court disappointed his father.
Refreshments served. Free. The public is invited.
