Three Musical Acts in Over-the-Rhine

March 19, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

$10 – $12

Join Cincinnati’s new Over-the-Rhine Museum for our first fundraiser on Wednesday, April 19 beginning at 7:30. This event will bring together three talented musical acts, each with a unique connection to Over-the-Rhine, to share short sets of music and stories.  Katie Laur with Ma Crow, Molly Sullivan, and Jake Speed and the Freddies will grace the Woodward’s stage as part of this exciting event at the historic Woodward Theater at 1404 Main Street.

Performers

Katie Laur with Ma Crow: Bluegrass goddess Katie Laur landed in Cincinnati in 1966 from Paris, Tennessee. Her music has taken her from the Prairie Home Companion to Russia to the Kennedy Center, but after fifty years, she still comes home to Over-the-Rhine. Locally Katie Laur hosted the popular WNKU radio show “Music from the Hills of Home.” In 2005 Katie was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Museum.  Ma Crow was born in Cincinnati to parents who migrated from Tennessee. A Cincinnati bluegrass icon in her own right, Ma Crow played for many years with a well-known Cincinnati band, The Flock, and then in another Cincinnati band, The Mother Pluckers. She is a CAMMY award winner and multi-nominee for the Cincinnati Entertainment Awards.

Molly Sullivan: Molly Sullivan’s sonic palette incorporates folk, pop, and experimental values with lush vocal-scapes, catchy melodies, and heart-tugging, honest lyrics.   She was the 2013 Winner of Bulleit Bourbon’s Best New Bands.  She’s brought her self-described haunt pop to the Midpoint Music Festival and blends Cincinnati grit with Midwestern charm.

Jake Speed and the Freddies: Jake Speed & the Freddies blend guitar, mandolin, tenor guitar, and upright bass (plus harmonica, kazoo, washboard, and watering can). Their traditional and original songs leap right out of Depression-era freight trains and onto Ohio River steamboats.  Their near-vaudeville style stage shows and quick-witted charisma rope in loyal fans of new and old generations alike.

Accompanying the event will be the Museum’s first silent auction, filled with irresistible Cincinnati items- art, catered food, theatre tickets, historic tours, and a lot more.

Between sets, you can view our Stories of Over-the-Rhine exhibit – engaging stories of twelve people in Over-the-Rhine from the 1840s to the present – and leave your own stories of Over-the-Rhine on our interactive floor map.

On top of all this excitement, there will also be performer merchandise and Over-the-Rhine Museum pint glasses and t-shirts for sale.

Tickets for the event are $10 in advance on Cincytickets.com, and $12 at the door.

All ages are welcome.

Doors open at 7 PM and the show starts at 7:30.

This event is generously funded by Fuel Cincinnati.
