Lyrasis Class: Digital Stewardship Fundamentals

Description: Is your institution embarking on a digitization project? Have you been accessioning digital collections, but want to make sure that you are prepared to handle the long-term preservation needs that are specific to these digital items? This two hour class will present strategies for maintaining long term access to your digital collections and a discussion of key principles for the creation, maintenance, and preservation.


Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify strategies to preserve access to your digital collections
  • Recognize file formats and Media
  • Analyze storage and handling requirements of analog and digital collections

Instructor: Annie Peterson

Annie Peterson is the Preservation Services Librarian at LYRASIS. Previously, since 2012, she was the Preservation Librarian at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. At Tulane she provided collection care services to the library’s varied general and special collections and was the principal investigator of an IMLS National Leadership Planning Grant for establishing collaborative preservation services in New Orleans. Annie received her MLIS from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she worked in both preservation and conservation. She has also worked in preservation at Yale University, George Blood Audio and Video, and the University of California, Los Angeles.

Intended Audience: This class is designed for individuals or institutions planning or in the early phases of a digital project. As an introduction to digital stewardship, no prior experience with digitization or digital collections is assumed.
Frequency: offered 2 times a year, Winter & Summer

Registrations for this class must be received at least 48 hours before the class date. This class is designed for individual participation; each individual must register.
